The Round Up at The Shrunken Head!

Howdy Honky Tonkers-
Slim here. We’ve got a couple of shows comin’ up that I want to tell you about, ‘cause we’d love to see you there.

First up we have a Happy Hour show at The Rumba Café, when we will share a bill with our friends Unit One. We have been trying to schedule a show with Unit One for a long time now, and it will be our first appearance at The Rumba, so we are looking forward to this evening of great local music at a very cool venue. That’s on Friday the 23rd this month, and the show starts at 6 PM.

Next up, on Thursday the 29th, we will be returning to The Treehouse, one of our favorite rooms, where I will once again knock my head against the speakers hanging from the ceiling. I will do this three times, as is customary, before I “get it” and start avoiding them. We are pleased to feature one of our favorite songwriters, Joshua James, on this bill, and another act to be determined as soon as we find them. This is not a Happy Hour show; it is an actual late night affair that starts at 10 PM. By the time The Averys take the stage I will probably be in my cups, which means I will forget some lyrics. This also means I will probably bust out some cheesy Dwight Yoakum-style guitar poses that I would never attempt if I were sober. You have been warned.

Now, the news item that we are most amped to share with you concerns The Ranch Party Round Up, our monthly showcase of Honky Tonk and Roots music that we have been holding at The Thirsty Ear since last October. Over the course of five Round Ups, the good Honky Tonk fans of Columbus have shown their support for this style of music and have made The Round Up a real success, and The Averys are grateful for that show of enthusiasm. We have made it our mission to bring you only the best Classic Country and Americana style acts; we provide a full night of entertainment, including Boots Massing, Columbus’ only pure Honky Tonk vinyl DJ, spinning vintage records between sets, and also a chance to test your Country Music history knowledge with a game of Country Music Trivia. All of this for an admission price of zero dollars and zero cents.

But wait! It gets better! Starting on Sunday, May 16, The Ranch Party Round Up will be moving to The Shrunken Head! It’s no secret that since Victorian’s Midnight Café changed ownership and became The Shrunken Head, it has rapidly established itself as the true local headquarters for Americana and Country Music fans and musicians. Most of y’all have probably been out to The Head just within the past couple of weeks, to catch Jamie Lyn and Fort Knox for a great Honky Tonk Happy Hour. The Averys had the privilege of playing a Honky Tonk Happy Hour just a couple of weeks ago, and the audience and staff alike couldn’t have been more accommodating. The Honky Tonk Happy Hour at The Shrunken Head is a great free show that you can catch on the first and third Fridays every month; The Ranch Party Round Up is your other opportunity every month to see a full lineup of talented Country performers and enjoy great food and Happy Hour drink specials. The Averys are pleased to join forced with Fort Knox and The Shrunken Head to make sure your monthly Country Music calendar is filled with plenty of opportunities to catch great live shows at a very cool venue.

I will be back to remind you of the next Ranch Party Round Up as the date draws closer. We’ve booked two great acts to appear with The Averys, but I’ve rambled on long enough now, so I will fill you in on them later. Right now I need a beer.

Giddyap!
Slim
