See This Guitar In Person On December 4th!

Howdy, Classic Country Fans!
You can see by this picture that I have had my cheap but trusty and loyal Sunburst Sidekick customized to suit The Averys' showbiz stylings. We always say "If you expect folks to look at you playin' music all night long, then give them somethin' to look at!" You can find out more about the artist who did this work by visiting www.greasygorillapinstriping.daportfolio.com, and tell ol' Oni that Slim sent ya'!

The Averys had one hell of a great Round Up last week with Andy and Chrissy turning in a spellbinding performance and sounding in very fine voice, and The Hanging Deadmen turing things into a real full-on Honky Tonk party. Many thanks to these talented acts and to all you loyal Rounders-Up who made it one of the best Round Ups yet!

Now, ol' Chris Bingman, our good friend from The Deadmen and other crucial Country acts, has got himself his own monthly show that he is set to commence here in December. The first episode of The Chris Bingman Variety Hour will air at Bernie's Distillery on Saturday, December 4th. Scheduling conflicts prevent The Averys from playing this show, but Boots and I will be on hand to provide a duet performance of some of the Averys songs that you know and love. We are pleased to be invited to help Bing kick off his monthly Country Music show, and we hope that will take this opportunity to catch Boots and me in our first stripped down duet performance, without those other pesky Averys getting in the way of our Country Music genius.

You may not be tempted by the thought of Boots and me fumbling through a hamfisted set of acoustic arrangements, but wait there is more. On the same bill that night will be Joshua P James, fresh off his mini-tour and toting piping-hot copies of his new album "As Long A I Am Tall". This is a terrific record from one of Columbus's finest and tallest songwriters and performers, a truly original voice and a talent to be reckoned with. Of course, Chris Bingman hisself will have any number of musical treats in store for you. You never know exactly what to expect from Bing, but you can be certain you will be entertained and probably slightly hung over before it is all said and done.

November Round Up Talent

The Hanging Deadmen
Andy and Chrissy
Slim White and The Averys

Howdy, Folks. Slim here again. It's that time once more when I am bound to give you an idea of the kind of talent you can expect to enjoy this Sunday evening at The Ranch Party Round Up. We had a great turnout for our one year anniversary show last month, and we are much obliged to you for your loyalty and your support of live, local Classic Country Music. There are so many great pickers and singers around these parts that we want you to get to know, so we will keep on bringin' these folks out as long as you'll let us.

When we put together our Acoustic and Duet Showcase a couple of months ago, we really enjoyed the set from Andy and Chrissy. You know this charming couple from their fine work in OutLaw DeLuxe, but if you haven't caught them as an acoustic duo, then this Sunday is your chance. Andy and Chrissy will perform songs that you know and love by the likes of Johnny and June, Waylon, and John Prine, as well as a possible original or two. Besides being dedicated and skilled musicians, Andy and Chrissy are also two of kindest folks you will ever meet. They are family to me and the Averys, and we are proud to have them back to The Round Up.
The next act we have for you are also part of The Averys' Round Up family, although this will be their first appearance at The Round Up. You'll remember seeing Chris Bingman picking his mandolin and sipping some whiskey when he played a couple of Round Ups with Springfield Special, a great Bluegrass band from (you guessed it) Springfield. We've also played a couple of shows with Bing and his buddy Zeb South when they have performed as The B S Country and Western Band. When Bing gets a project going, you know he will be working with great pickers and singers, and the material they play will be some of the best classic Country and Bluegrass sounds from down through the years. That is what you can look forward to from The Hanging Deadmen. I don't usually quote direct from a band's own promo stuff, but I thought that The Hanging Deadmen had a pretty informative little blurb on their Facebook page, so I will plug it in for you here:
Our influences include, but are not limited to: eastern outlaws, riverboat junkies, two-bit ramblers, fairly good gamblers, bonfires, cold beers, no good scallywags, country, folk, family, friends, bluegrass, rebel music, porch pickers, spitters, our four legged friends and our fine female friends, vets from wars afar, a nice vintage car, everybody from ireland and anything else that we decide to play for.
Well, I don't see how you can possibly pass up an act with such a sunny attitude. We are always happy to welcome Bing and his various collaborators to The Round Up, and we are certain you will enjoy the show.
As usual, the Ranch Party Round Up remains a free show. We will have our customary agenda of distractions and entertainments for you, including but not limited to: Two sets of Bakersfield-styled Classic Country and Entirely All Our Own songs from The Averys (featuring the Round Up debut of "I Thought I Told You To Wait In The Truck"!); excellent musical performances from the aforementioned Country Talents; Classic Country Music Trivia Game with prizes either spectacular or lame, you never can tell; Live Actual Classic Country Music DJ Boots Massing spinning Actual Vinyl Records between sets; ridiculous and corny stage props as well as reasonably distracting between-song banter.
This is an early show for mature audiences, and by mature I mean old folks like me who don't like to be out until all hours of the night. The music starts prompty at 6 PM, which is right around supper time, so make sure to grab a menu and sample some of The Shrunken Head's delicious schnitzel, or have a burger or a bowl of chili. And of course enjoy a delicious Columbus Brewing Company beer, while you are at it!
